Cirrus G2 and G2+ Avionics Database Update Process (not for G1 jets…)

G2 and G2+ Vision Jet Avionics Database Update Process (sorry, not for G1 jets...)

In this video, we will walk you through the procedure for updating the flight charts and databases of a G2 or G2+ Vision Jet.

Charts and databases in Vision Jets (and other aircrafts) update on reoccurring intervals of 14, 28 and 56 day cycles.

We updated the following during this update cycle:

  1. NavData
  2. Airport Directory
  3. Obstacles
  4. SafeTaxi
  5. Section Charts
  6. Electronic Charts (Jeppesen Chartview)

DISCLAIMERS: Please do not attempt to update charts and databases of any avionics system unless you are familiar with each step of the process or have guidance from an experienced party.

This process is ONLY for G2 and G2+ Vision Jets with Garmin Perspective Touch Plus avionics. This IS NOT the process for G1 Vision Jets with Garmin Perspective Touch avionics. See this video for the G1 Vision Jet database updating process.

Summary (not a checklist):

  1. Log into Jeppesen Distribution Manager (JDM) using the aircraft's account credentials.
  2. Determine which charts and databases are subject to the next update cycle.
  3. Have a supplemental SD card of 8 GB capacity ready for use.  The supplemental SD card is also referred to as a "briefcase card" by some.
  4. Verify the contents on the supplemental SD card and format the card FAT32 before moving on.
  5. Refer to JDM and individually download each of the chart and databases to be updated in the aircraft.
  6. Place the formatted supplemental SD card in your computer.
  7. Use the JDM transfer button to individually transfer each of the charts and database files to the supplemental SD card.  Safely remove the SD card and keep in in a safe place.
  8. Go to the aircraft and connect it to a ground power unit.  Typically 28 volts and 25-50 amps will suffice for database updates.
  9. Do not power the avionics yet...
  10. Remove the SD and/or Flight Stream 510 card that are in the slots of the PFD and MFD.
  11. Place the supplemental SD card in the upper MFD slow (where the datalogger card usually resides).
  12. Turn on the Bat 2 and Bat 1 switches and wait for the avionics to power up.  The files on the supplemental SD will then be recognized as new files by the avionics system and they will be moved into the Standby category on GTC 2.
  13. Once the avionics has finished synchronizing you can turn the battery switches off.
  14. Turn on the Bat 2 and Bat 1 switches and wait for the avionics to power up again to check your work.  Please note that the aircraft will have to be outside so the avionics can recognize the current date to move the standby databases into the active column.

A special thanks and a shout out to United States Aviation Co. in Tulsa, OK. They are expects at efficiency and quick turns! Also excellent Corporate Aircraft Association fuel pricing. Thanks for the excellent ball cap!

The G2 Vision Jet shown in this video is available for dry lease out of the Nashville area.
