SF50 Type Rating and What to Expect…
To receive a SF50 training slot, at the Cirrus Vision Center in Knoxville, you must be associated with a specific Vision Jet tail number as an owner, pro-pilot or lessee. The type rating currently costs around $31,000 unless it is an entitlement training slot from a new jet purchase. It takes nearly two consecutive weeks to complete.
Make life easier on yourself by preparing with one of our Jet Readiness Instructors and experiencing the fun and excitement of flying a Vision Jet here in Nashville or wherever you wish.
Once you have your SF50 Vision Jet training slot scheduled, we recommend you try to devote the preceding 30-60 days to dedicated preparation for your type rating. Of course, each pilot is different, so your level of commitment should be consistent with your current competency and knowledge. The main idea is to give the type rating due respect, especially if it is your first. It is challenging, but we can help you prepare and verify you are ready. Task completion, competency, and memorization are critical aspects related to your ultimate success.
Our Jet Readiness Training provides familiarization with the aircraft systems and avionics and build your confidence before the type rating.
Most type rated pilots will also be required to complete Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) after the type rating. We would live to fly with you and complete your SOE. We are experienced with the FAA and process for removing your Pilot in Command restriction (aka PIC removal process).
What makes our SOE program the best?
Pilots that have used us for SOE will tell you it was fun, rewarding and challenging. Contact us at (615) 843-8553 or through the form below to schedule jet readiness training or your SOE with one of our Vision Jet mentor pilots.

Do I have to do my type rating at Cirrus Aircraft?
There are third-party flight schools offering type ratings “In Aircraft”. While this seems like great experience, it is also somewhat limited due to flight safety. In fact, some insurance carriers require “Simulator” (full motion simulators and FAA certified Flight Training Devices) based training and type ratings, which is only done at Cirrus Aircraft. Simulator based training offers a full array of in flight emergencies and systems failures than simply cannot be replicated in the aircraft.
Why (is the type-rating) so Challenging?
The Vision Jet training Training program is offered in accordance with a FAR 142 certificate. The completion standard is to Air Transport Pilot (ATP) specifications. The program and your checkride will be performance-driven and require demonstration of critical knowledge and aircraft control. The program is flexible enough to provide “some” additional time and resources to pilots that make need more training before.
Operating an aircraft at high altitudes, and faster speeds require pilot performance. The ATC system expects more of jet pilots and so preparedness is essential. The training program transitions pilots so they are prepared to fly the Vision Jet.
SF50 Type-Rating Overview
The type rating involves large amounts of memorization of emergency procedures, memory items and pilot techniques. Cirrus Aircraft will send you books and access to materials weeks before your training begins. You will also be provided access to video training materials as well. You will find that the video material is very good, but the details learned during the ground training phase will be more substantial and at a speedy pace. Showing up well prepared will make week two much more enjoyable.
Let’s get you where you need to be, do a “The Victory Lap” together, and then complete your SOE.
I thoroughly enjoy “The Victory Lap” with newly type rated pilots… The Victory Lap is the first flight following your type rating in the Vision Jet. It is your freedom flight after being in Knoxville for nearly two weeks and your first opportunity to apply what you have learned with one of our mentor pilots.
